Sapele floor sanding and restoration in Crystal Palace

We were instructed to sand and restore these solid Sapele strip floors, which had been previously sealed with varnish. Once removed, the true character of the timber became visible, with rich grain patterns and warm natural tones emerging across the floor.

After sanding, the floor was finished using Rubio Monocoat Pure. This oil-based system was chosen to enhance the natural appearance of the Sapele while providing protection without altering the timber’s colour.

The completed floor retains the distinctive character of the wood while benefiting from a breathable, easy-to-maintain finish suitable for long-term use.

Why professional floor sanding matters

Correct preparation and finishing play a vital role in the longevity, appearance and safety of timber floors. Professional sanding techniques help achieve a level, consistent surface, while the correct finishing system protects the timber from wear and ongoing maintenance issues.

In larger or high-use spaces, careful product selection and application methods are especially important to ensure durability and safe performance over time.
