Commercial Floor Sanding

This commercial floor sanding project demonstrates our approach to restoring large, high-traffic timber floors where durability, finish consistency and scheduling are critical.

The brief was to correct previous poor sanding work and deliver a robust, professional finish suitable for ongoing commercial use.

Project overview:

  • Location: Commercial premises (London)

  • Property type: Commercial / retail space

  • Floor type: Pine floorboards

  • Condition: Heavily worn with previous sanding damage

  • Service: Commercial floor sanding & refinishing

  • Finish: Bona primer with Bona Traffic HD (matt)

Large-scale commercial floor sanding and restoration

We were appointed to carry out the sanding and restoration of a large commercial timber floor that had been previously sanded incorrectly, leaving deep marks and uneven areas across the surface.

Due to the nature of the premises, works were carried out outside of trading hours, allowing the business to continue operating without disruption. With limited wear layer remaining, the floor required a controlled sanding process using medium-grade abrasives before being refined using specialist buffing equipment.

Once the surface was corrected and smoothed, the floor was stained to achieve a consistent tone across the entire area before being sealed with a commercial-grade primer and finished with two coats of Bona Traffic HD in matt.

This system was selected to provide maximum durability, abrasion resistance and ease of maintenance — essential for high-footfall commercial environments.

Why professional floor sanding matters

Correct preparation and finishing play a vital role in the longevity, appearance and safety of timber floors. Professional sanding techniques help achieve a level, consistent surface, while the correct finishing system protects the timber from wear and ongoing maintenance issues.

In larger or high-use spaces, careful product selection and application methods are especially important to ensure durability and safe performance over time.
