Oak floor sanding and refinishing in Blackheath
The original oak flooring was structurally in good condition, but the existing colour and finish no longer suited the client’s interior. They were keen to move away from the darker tone and achieve a lighter, more natural look that would complement the space while remaining easy to maintain.
We began by carefully sanding the floor to remove the old finish and expose clean, fresh timber beneath. Once fully prepared, Rubio Monocoat Oil was selected as the ideal finish. This hardwearing oil enhances the natural grain of the oak while offering excellent protection, all without the need for multiple coats or a heavy surface build.
The floor was finished with a subtle matt sheen, creating a clean, contemporary look that still feels warm and natural. The transformation significantly brightened the room, and the client was delighted with the final result.
Why professional floor sanding matters
Correct preparation and finishing play a vital role in the longevity, appearance and safety of timber floors. Professional sanding techniques help achieve a level, consistent surface, while the correct finishing system protects the timber from wear and ongoing maintenance issues.
In larger or high-use spaces, careful product selection and application methods are especially important to ensure durability and safe performance over time.
