We were called in to sand and refinish these solid oak floors, which were showing signs of wear and had a particularly tough ali-oxide factory finish. This type of coating is extremely hard-wearing — often described as “glass-like” — and requires careful, controlled sanding to remove without damaging the timber beneath.

Once the ali-oxide layer had been successfully sanded away, the natural colour of the oak was revealed, allowing us to move forward with a lighter, more contemporary finish. The floor was then sealed with three coats of natural matt lacquer, providing durability while maintaining a clean, understated appearance.

The completed floor retained the character of the oak while achieving a noticeably brighter, more modern look — a transformation the client was delighted with.
