Floor sanding and restoration in Sydenham

Before sanding commenced, a small number of damaged boards were replaced using carefully selected matching reclaimed pine to maintain consistency with the original floor. Once preparation was complete, the entire floor was sanded back, allowing us to assess gaps and movement between boards.

To improve comfort and reduce draughts, an acrylic gap-filling method was applied during the sanding process. Once cured, the excess was sanded away, leaving a smoother, more stable surface while retaining the natural character of the timber.

To achieve the client’s desired finish, the floor was sealed with three coats of Blanchon Environment, providing durability while preserving a light, freshly sanded appearance. The result was a restored pine floor with improved insulation, a consistent finish, and a natural look that will age beautifully over time.

Why professional floor sanding matters

Correct preparation and finishing play a vital role in the longevity, appearance and safety of timber floors. Professional sanding techniques help achieve a level, consistent surface, while the correct finishing system protects the timber from wear and ongoing maintenance issues.

In larger or high-use spaces, careful product selection and application methods are especially important to ensure durability and safe performance over time.
